IB wanted to implement a proof-of-concept RFID project to see if the technology could improve inventory counts at franchise dealers and reduce costs of battery delivery from warehouse to dealer locations

ISSUES

IB warehouse distributors need a better way track battery inventor at the franchise dealers

Seasonal battery sales create unnecessary shortages on certain types such as boat batteries

Delivery trucks waste time and trips to franchise dealers, because real-time inventory is not understood

Tracking batteries from shipping to sale is not timely. Stale data causes inventory issues

Implement UI/UX interface and cloud services to observe battery racks at dealer locations

Relay and integrate inventory information back to in-house systems

Provide in-route truck locations and status. Relay real-time dealer inventory needs to truck via mobile device

Interface with MicroStrategy and GIS systems for status mappings of inventory

RESULT

Cost of RFID racks, relay stations, and interface devices coupled with development cost proved to not be as cost effective as research had indicated, so IB has put the project on hold
